From the moment I stepped through the door I was made to feel so welcome. Keith bringing me coffee while Linda instantly helped me to feel at home and so comfortable while we talked about the possibilities for our event.

Then to arrive and have Doris and Joe be so helpful in set up and hauling stuff and Sandra checking in to see if we needed anything else. Then the kitchen comfort team ministered to us through beautiful Sonia and delicious food prepared lovingly: Janet & Linda/butter tarts! Yum!

It is no wonder amazing things happened!

I thank you for your quiet service in caring for our group, me and all those who are fortunate enough to pass through your doors.

Blessed by you all!

We are planning to be back next year from Sept. 17-22 and will happily give a deposit. Once again we will have to give it in installments – October, March and July. We would, however, like confirmation on the 2011 cost of facility use, meals and rooms, as we need this for our budgeting and planning in the coming year. There will likely be a similar number of students. We are prepared to book the same week every September for the next 10 or more years.

Once again, thank you and the staff for all your kindness.

Dear Friends … who became my family at Cedar Lodge.

I came to you a little more than a year ago. I was a total stranger when I arrived.

I was broken. Beaten down. I was an empty soul.

I hated myself, life and the path that I was on. I didn’t see a future let alone think I could have one. Through your love, support and guidance, today that is all different.

I can never thank all of you enough for everything that you have done for me over this last year and a half. The time and effort that you have put into me and helping me achieve some goals while I have been here. Well there just isn’t a value that I can put on that.

I have sincerely enjoyed my time here.

Without all of you here it just wouldn’t have been the same experience.

I am sad to leave but it is time for me to take the lessons that I have learned here and take them into the world.

I came here in pieces and you all have had a part in putting me back together.

Thank you so much! All of you!

Love Colin

P.S. We will always be family now.

Exciting changes are about to take place at Cedar Lodge!

We will be expanding our operation as early as the spring of 2011.

Development plans are underway to build 6 lakefront townhomes on either side of the Lodge overlooking the lake. Another 6 townhomes are planned for the ravine on the north east crest of the property. 18 townhomes in all to complete Phase I of the new and improved look to include a residential plan so that the many who have inquired over the years to live on this beautiful property can be realized. Corporate name to be “The Residences at Cedar Lodge.”

Below is a picture of Cedar Lodge from across the lake.

To the right as you look at the picture you can see some cabins. The cabins closest to the lake are situated on the land where at least 6 townhomes will be built. To the left of Cedar Lodge there are no structures; however, you can see a steep hill rising up to a flat area and this is where 6 townhomes will be placed, 4 facing the lake directly and 2 on the end of the crest facing north east.

Currently, there are no obstacles to building where there are presently cabins.

This property is grandfathered and therefore, there is no hesitation in allowing us to remove these structures and replace them with new, modern and exciting accommodations for the discerning buyer. We have shared these ideas with Town Council and they are excited about the future at Cedar Lodge.

A larger view of this picture is at the bottom of this page.

Below: View from Townhomes facing North East

This land has an exceptional view. At present the Navy League of Canada owns the property to the north and then the Y Camp beyond that. Each of these properties are used in the training of the use of various watercraft including sailboats, kayaks and canoes and cause no distraction other than the beauty of these varieties of vessels sailing around the lake.

Below: View from Townhomes overlooking the Ravine

This beautiful rolling landscape is filled with wildlife and wonderful birds. The view is to the east and the sunrises are spectacular. In the heat of the day, you have the south eastern view, so one can remain cool while enjoying the day. Plans include walkways throughout the ravine enhanced by the natural lay of the land … picnic tables and park benches will allow you to enjoy the area to the fullest and one can walk through the ravine to the lake itself.

Below: View from Townhomes overlooking Blackstrap Lake

These cabins to be removed and replaced with the most beautiful and quality crafted townhomes. It may not look like much from this photo, but please do visit us and have someone show you around the property, walk the land itself, and you will see that this is a most excellent spot. The townhome will be built into the side of the hill, and the bottom level of your home will have access to your own dock and boat slip.

As promised, below is a larger view of the Cedar Lodge property from across the lake …

CEDAR LODGE … BIGGER AND BOLDER …

What spot would YOU pick?

You will note that there is a row of cabins on higher land than the 3 cabins presently closest to the lake. The higher row will be replaced with similar architecturally designed structures with some additional townhome units as well as an administration building for the Lodge itself and the developing area, a coffee shop, a small restaurant plus some specialty shops for visiting clients.

All townhome owners will have a special access package to Cedar Lodge and its facilities; a fully upgraded and brand new swimming pool, saunas, jacuzzis, weight room and exercise facility, gymnasium not to mention the ability to partake in wonderful dinners during special events.

For more information or to be included in our special mailing list as the development progresses, contact Suzanne at 881-1221 or email us directly at cedarlodgeorg@yahoo.ca. Show your interest early, we have a waiting list and it is growing. There are nine buyers already in discussion with us as to layout, design, size, price packages.

Prices have not yet been established; however, suffice to say that these units will be mid to high end. The facility itself will be transformed over the next 2 – 5 years with a 9 million dollar expansion plan in the works.

The complex when completed will be a 40 million dollar development.

Expect Cedar Lodge to be the talk of the town in the years to come.

Already known for its high standards … providing a spirit of excellence … in service, hospitality and cuisine, we have a continuous stream of repeat customers from government agencies, to accounting firms, management groups, conferences and conventions not to mention the most exciting and beautiful weddings and the most easy going venue for family reunions.

Situated in the heart of the Province, Cedar Lodge provides easy access to residents from Saskatoon,Prince Albert and Regina. We are so centrally located that all parts of the province have a quick route to get here.

Cedar Lodge has held events that have brought people from all over the globe. Get Excited! You have a chance to be a part of that action. It’s fun and exciting to participate in the comings and goings of so many fascinating people … and on the other hand, you can choose to reside in your own private world as if there was nothing going on around you but the lake in front of you.

A MIRACLE TRIP TO CEDAR LODGE !!

Over the years, so many miracles have happened at Cedar Lodge, stories of recovery, healing, reconciliation and deliverance. Suzanne is in the process of writing her second book which is to contain just some of the encounters with freedom that visitors have had because of their journey to this very special place. The following is a recent accounting by Elaine Cook, whose website is www.kingdomgospel.net. Elaine has been in ministry for decades and is the absolutely one of the most precious of saints to have ever visited Cedar Lodge. You can find this transcript at her website under her October 09 Newsletter.

From Elaine Cook’s October 09 Newsletter – See www.kingdomgospel.com

It is not uncommon for a person to walk all of her life under the shadow of false messages given to her from a child. After a while, she takes them to be the truth and acts accordingly. I have a dear friend who had such a problem, though I never knew the depth of it until recently.

We felt led of the Lord to visit our new-found friend, Suzanne Olaski of Cedar Lodge in Saskatchewan, Canada, a two-day drive from here. Although Bill wanted to go, at the last he didn’t feel he could sit that length of time in a car. When I looked to the Lord as to what to do, He dropped Carol’s name into my heart. She is a faithful friend from Spokane and was delighted to drive me and to spend time together. She also is a terrific driver.

On the road there and back and while we were there, she shared deeply from her heart. It took that long to be able to express what she needed to say. It was then that I realized that she walked under the shadow of the false message: “I’m not worthy to be loved.” In truth, she is lovely, kind, and deeply spiritual.

The enemy had convinced her that others were thinking she was ignorant. She became so confused and upset that she was unable to express herself clearly when she spoke.

She was so lovingly received by all at Cedar Lodge that she began to be able to speak smoothly, which greatly encouraged her. She told me that, for the past two months, her body seemed to be shutting down. It didn’t want to receive food and she struggled to eat at every meal.

It wasn’t until we were on our way home after a delightful visit, that the Lord gave me ‘light’ on her problem. She had started giving her body the message: “I’m not worthy to live” and it responded by shutting down!

I’m pleased to report that she broke the power of that lie through prayer and took hold of her acceptance in the Beloved. A big part of her deliverance was recognizing that she had believed a lie all those years! The enemy of our soul doesn’t have to come to us in a gargoyle costume—he just needs to insinuate a thought into our minds (as he did with Eve) and if we do not recognize the origin of it, we are caught in his web of deceit! I encourage each one who reads these words, to check your thoughts which can come from any of three sources: our own mind, the mind of Christ, and the enemy’s mind.

We should know that neither we nor the Lord are going to say evil things about ourselves nor accuse our friends of doing so. (One saint said: “What other people think of you is none of your business!”)

Only the accuser of the brethren would do such a dirty deed and do it so subtly that we would believe him!

My friend has returned to life and her body is responding and her speech is smooth because she now believes the truth: she is accepted in the Beloved!

Elaine Cook challenges us by saying “Are YOU believing a lie?”

My very favourite time every year at Cedar Lodge is the gathering up of the flocks of snow geese that land on Blackstrap Lake. In mid October, one can spot what appears to be a ‘snow cap’ on the water at the north end of the lake, but in fact, it is the beginning of the gathering of the geese for their migration to the south.

After they have spent often many hours on the lake, they will fly over Cedar Lodge and visit various farmlands within a radius of about 4 kms. Each stop they make, they meet up with more and more of their fellow geese and after a day of landing and eating and lifting and soaring they make their way … a larger group now … again to the north end of Blackstrap Lake. This time the ‘snow cap look’ on the lake has increased to about double the previous day.

The following day, the same routine, until a larger and larger flock has developed and when the snow geese finally leave Blackstrap Lake for the trek south, as they pass over Cedar Lodge, their passing can take up to 35 minutes, so many in number are they.

Yesterday, (October 21st) I heard them in a neighbour’s field making a tremendous noise … they were several quarter sections south. We took the truck down the back roads and came to their feeding spot.

See http://www.wbu.com/chipperwoods/photos/geese.htm … for more information on the snow geese and their gregarious behaviour.

SUZANNE CLAIRE OLASKI, Administrator of Cedar Lodge and Author of REMEMBRANCE OF A PATH WELL LIT, was named to the WORD ALIVE PRESS SHORTLIST of five authors in their 2008 Publishing Contest. Congratulations go out to Suzanne from all of us at Cedar Lodge for yet another recognition of her achievements, this time in the literary field.
(See http://www.wordalivepress.ca/contestwinners.html)

Her book has sold more than 5,000 copies over the past 14 years, making its way to many in prison, helping those in recovery as well as lifting the hearts of discouraged Christians. This autobiographical work extends the arm of faith to all walks of life.

Written in 1994 over a period of four months, and known as an ‘underground’ book (one that is flourishing though not published) Suzanne had never been prompted to seek out publication, finding that a simple photocopied manuscript adequately served those who happened upon its path. Linda Laird, her friend for many years, saw an entry form at Parables Book Store in Saskatoon and suggested that Suzanne submit her work. The winner and five finalists were named on September 4, 2008.

You may order a copy of Suzanne’s book by calling Cedar Lodge at 306-492-4999 or sending an email to cedarlodgeorg@yahoo.ca – price $20 plus shipping and handling. Your support through this purchase is greatly appreciated as it becomes part of the assistance provided by Cedar Lodge Outreach for the care and recovery of individuals and families in crisis.

Dear Suzanne,

Congratulations on being one of this year’s top 5 finalists in the Non-Fiction category of Word Alive Press’s annual free Publishing Contest!

We received well over 100 submissions this year, far more than any year prior, and your manuscript really stood out to us! It was only possible to pick one winner in each category; however, we want you to know that we want to Publish and Distribute your book!

Here are some words from our editor who evaluated your manuscript, Remembrance of a Path Well lit:

“In truth, I love this book. Admittedly, it’s a little bit old school. If I had to use one word to describe it, I’d have to say it is inspiring. Something about this woman is so effortless and peaceful. It’s comprised of a number of uplifting short stories. You know, I’m struggling to find the perfect sentence to sum up my appreciation for this book, the perfect compliment, but I’m falling short. Suffice it to say that you’ll have to read it for yourself and make up your own mind. I like it “just because”. And it’s expertly written. Expertly. She’s a real pro.”

Two years ago Word Alive Inc. launched a sales and marketing campaign where we took the top 5 contest finalists and a few other key titles and created a “Canadian Authors” program that nearly 100 Christian bookstores in Canada participated in. We placed a display equipped with signage and a quantity of each book in these participating stores and introduced shoppers to some great Canadian writers! In January of 2009 we will be running this program again and we want your book to be a part of it!

As we continue to partner together with Canadian authors and Canadian Christian retailers we are seeing a constant growth in the market share for Canadian authors. What separates Word Alive Press from all other Canadian publishing companies is that we in fact have a sales team in the field selling books to stores. When our sales representatives meet with hundreds of buyers in January 2009, your book could be part of this program!

Thank you again for all the hard work you’ve put into your manuscript! May God richly bless you in all your life’s endeavours.

Sincerely,

Caroline Schmidt

It is perhaps little known about OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM helping many individuals and families in distress; whether it be drug or alcohol recovery, assistance with codependency issues, food distribution, resources for tired individuals, respite through Mental Health, Fine Option Program through Saskatchewan Justice, using our truck to help move single moms and families with few resources.

Our volunteers have proven to be the most faithful and diligent individuals I have ever known. In 2004, when I was awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit which recognized the community service provided through Cedar Lodge, I was allowed to bring two guests to the Premier’s banquet. Upon sharing with the Premier that without my right hand people, I would not be receiving this incredible honour and I asked if I might invite them to the banquet also. There was no hesitation on his part and hence 16 members of our team attended also.

To rave about our volunteers, let me say this! Kaiser Permanente, which is the largest health care provider in the United States, did a serious study on volunteerism around the world. Not to our surprise Canadians come out on top for numbers of hours per capita donated. But more amazing still was the information that in spite of the great contribution of volunteers worldwide, it was noted that for one individual to take two weeks out of one year was considered a ‘miracle.’

What then could 10 years, 365 days each year, day in and day out, often more than 16 hours a day, WITHOUT PAY and with little recognition, be considered??

I would have to say that it would be nothing short of … OUT OF THIS WORLD !! Many of the volunteers at Cedar Lodge have been with me for the full ten years and some longer going back to when we started our food distribution program and had a soup kitchen on 20th Street in Saskatoon.

Over the years we have received hundreds of thank you notes and letters from literally around the globe. We are pleased to share a few with you here.

at Blackstrap Lake is lots of fun, both winter and summer. Fun for the whole family !

I’m not sure if this dog is looking out for fish or ducks!!

Fish in the lake include pike, perch, pickerel, walleye and white fish – you may even catch some others, but these are the main varieties.

There is a boat launch at the Provincial Park at the more southern end of the lake, with a pass UNDER the causeway that will allow you to come back to Cedar Lodge and hitch your boat to our dock. The Navy League of Canada is the next property north of us, then the Y Camp and a little farther down the lake is the Saskatoon Sailing Club – each of these brings a variety of water craft to the lake all summer long.

Duck Hunting at its Finest!

Be prepared to see more information on this site as we upgrade to keep you posted regarding seasons, costs, varieties of birds and animals, migration patterns and more to enable you to have a most successful shoot.

With OVER FORTY PERCENT of North America’s duck population hatched in the wetlands of Saskatchewan, this is where it all begins!!

And Cedar Lodge is one of the most excellent spots to land for your hunting experience. The Lodge has the perfect atmosphere for your home away from home attitude. Home cooking, down home hospitality no matter where you hail from. Fireside corner, magnificent decks overlooking the lake and the skies where you can watch the geese fly in for miles. If geese are not your speciality, the deer meander over our 75 acres in the hundreds and moose very much in the vicinity.

We can make arrangements for your special guide to take you on a most unique experience, one worth remembering for years to come. We hear over and over again, “we will be back” and there is no doubt you will feel the same. Call ahead for bookings as our seasons fill up very quickly.

I am very pleased to write a testimonial about Cedar Lodge, where together with the other members of the Board of Directors of the Saskatchewan Soccer Association, I spent this past weekend, September 24-26, 2007, engaged in a very successful and pleasant strategic planning retreat.

I don’t think there is any other retreat locale (and I have been to a number of them) quite like this one. Cedar Lodge is a wonderfully rustic complex that overlooks scenic Blackstrap Lake and its beautiful surrounding woodlands.

The rooms are well appointed and very clean; all of the normal amenities are provided. What is really striking about the place, however, are the staff and the menu. There is an ease and natural friendliness in the manner of the staff, who make every effort to meet one’s needs, including providing specially requested meals, meals at odd times of the day, and snacks (home-made cookies or muffins, for example) at mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

The food tastes as if it were cooked by your mother (or father!) and there is much variety in the meals (and snacks) served from day to day. It is no exaggeration for me to say that I haven’t had Yorkshire pudding (the real thing!) like that in years!

The retreat meeting space was a spacious room with large windows overlooking Blackstrap Lake. We all found ourselves staring out those windows from time to time throughout the weekend and this brought a contemplative and peaceful atmosphere to our work, which turned out to be of a very high quality.

I cannot thank the staff enough for all of their efforts to make our weekend a success. They are truly wonderful people who treat their visitors as friends, putting them at ease from the start and making their stay a memorable one.

My warmest regards to all the staff at Cedar Lodge.

Cheers
