SUZANNE CLAIRE OLASKI, Administrator of Cedar Lodge and Author of REMEMBRANCE OF A PATH WELL LIT, has just been named to the WORD ALIVE PRESS SHORTLIST of five authors in their 2008 Publishing Contest. Congratulations go out to Suzanne from all of us at Cedar Lodge for yet another recognition of her achievements, this time in the literary field.
(See http://www.wordalivepress.ca/contestwinners.html)

Her book has sold more than 5,000 copies over the past 14 years, making its way to many in prison, helping those in recovery as well as lifting the hearts of discouraged Christians. This autobiographical work extends the arm of faith to all walks of life.

Written in 1994 over a period of four months, and known as an ‘underground’ book (one that is flourishing though not published) Suzanne had never been prompted to seek out publication, finding that a simple photocopied manuscript adequately served those who happened upon its path. Linda Laird, her friend for many years, saw an entry form at Parables Book Store in Saskatoon and suggested that Suzanne submit her work. The winner and five finalists were named on September 4, 2008.

You may order a copy of Suzanne’s book by calling Cedar Lodge at 306-492-4999 or sending an email to cedarlodgeorg@yahoo.ca - price $20 plus shipping and handling.
Your support through this purchase is greatly appreciated as it becomes part of the assistance in the care and recovery of many in crisis through the programs of Cedar Lodge Outreach.

Dear Suzanne,

Congratulations on being one of this year’s top 5 finalists in the Non-Fiction category of Word Alive Press’s annual free Publishing Contest!

We received well over 100 submissions this year, far more than any year prior, and your manuscript really stood out to us! It was only possible to pick one winner in each category; however, we want you to know that we want to Publish and Distribute your book!

Here are some words from our editor who evaluated your manuscript, Remembrance of a Path Well lit:

“In truth, I love this book. Admittedly, it’s a little bit old school. If I had to use one word to describe it, I’d have to say it is inspiring. Something about this woman is so effortless and peaceful. It’s comprised of a number of uplifting short stories. You know, I’m struggling to find the perfect sentence to sum up my appreciation for this book, the perfect compliment, but I’m falling short. Suffice it to say that you’ll have to read it for yourself and make up your own mind. I like it “just because”. And it’s expertly written. Expertly. She’s a real pro.”

Two years ago Word Alive Inc. launched a sales and marketing campaign where we took the top 5 contest finalists and a few other key titles and created a “Canadian Authors” program that nearly 100 Christian bookstores in Canada participated in. We placed a display equipped with signage and a quantity of each book in these participating stores and introduced shoppers to some great Canadian writers! In January of 2009 we will be running this program again and we want your book to be a part of it!

As we continue to partner together with Canadian authors and Canadian Christian retailers we are seeing a constant growth in the market share for Canadian authors. What separates Word Alive Press from all other Canadian publishing companies is that we in fact have a sales team in the field selling books to stores. When our sales representatives meet with hundreds of buyers in January 2009, your book could be part of this program!

Thank you again for all the hard work you’ve put into your manuscript! May God richly bless you in all your life’s endeavours.

Sincerely,

Caroline Schmidt

I am very pleased to write a testimonial about Cedar Lodge, where together with the other members of the Board of Directors of the Saskatchewan Soccer Association, I spent this past weekend, September 24-26, 2007, engaged in a very successful and pleasant strategic planning retreat.

I don’t think there is any other retreat locale (and I have been to a number of them) quite like this one. Cedar Lodge is a wonderfully rustic complex that overlooks scenic Blackstrap Lake and its beautiful surrounding woodlands.

The rooms are well appointed and very clean; all of the normal amenities are provided. What is really striking about the place, however, are the staff and the menu. There is an ease and natural friendliness in the manner of the staff, who make every effort to meet one’s needs, including providing specially requested meals, meals at odd times of the day, and snacks (home-made cookies or muffins, for example) at mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

The food tastes as if it were cooked by your mother (or father!) and there is much variety in the meals (and snacks) served from day to day. It is no exaggeration for me to say that I haven’t had Yorkshire pudding (the real thing!) like that in years!

The retreat meeting space was a spacious room with large windows overlooking Blackstrap Lake. We all found ourselves staring out those windows from time to time throughout the weekend and this brought a contemplative and peaceful atmosphere to our work, which turned out to be of a very high quality.

I cannot thank the staff enough for all of their efforts to make our weekend a success. They are truly wonderful people who treat their visitors as friends, putting them at ease from the start and making their stay a memorable one.

My warmest regards to all the staff at Cedar Lodge.

Cheers

WISSA 2001 - The WORLD Ice and Snow Sailing Championships were held at Cedar Lodge where 11 countries brought entries - it was an incredible week and we were thrilled to have been selected from all of the choices that could have been made from around the world. We gave each and every entrant and their family a good dose of Prairie Hospitality and we know they went home with a new understanding of our Canadian hearts.

Since opening its doors in 1997, Cedar Lodge has been host to more than three thousand events of the greatest variety including conventions, seminars, weddings, banquets, baptisms, family reunions, government
retreats, health and wellness sessions and so much more. Our business continued to grow steadily with no advertising. Word of mouth of the excellence of service and cuisine has brought us bookings years in advance.

Hosting both national and international events Cedar Lodge has given us the privilege of catering to people from 23 countries, WISSA being just one of those events.

Some of the Rave Reviews from WISSA looked like this:

“I have traveled all over the world and have found nothing to compare to the hospitality, the food and the service at Cedar Lodge.”

“I wish we had something like this in OUR province.”

“I came here stressed out and fed up! You have cheered my heart and made me able to face life again.”

“I came here skinny and I go home fat … but happy.”

“We WILL be back!”

“… A little piece of heaven.”

A lady visiting from EUROPE during WISSA wrote to us on her return:
“If there is a heaven on earth, then Cedar Lodge has got to be it!”

JULY 15, 2007 - MARKS THE FIRST DAY OF OUR SECOND DECADE !!

AND WHAT A DECADE IT HAS BEEN !!

We have provided hospitality, service and fabulous cuisine for thousands of events, some national, some international. We have provided spectacular surroundings for weddings, wedding receptions, seminars, conferences, family reunions, high school reunions, government workshops, retreats, respite and a whole host of various adventures.

Additionally, we have served hundreds of thousands over the past more than 10 years with our food distribution program. We have served hundreds in drug and alcohol recovery inasmuch as we are a long term residential treatment facility when we are not otherwise fully booked. Individuals have come from as far west as Victoria, B.C. and from as far east as Prince Edward Island for treatment.

Our amazing staff (all volunteers) provide the warmest hospitality and service bar none. And our kitchen staff!! They are unbelievable - home cooked meals that people come back for time and time again.

We have faithful customers who book their events with us year after year and we have bookings into the year 2011. One such customer recently remarked after hosting two events every year since 1997 (our first year) - “… in ten years, you have not shirked in any area, you are just as friendly, just as efficient and the meals have not waivered, not one bit.”

We want to thank our incredible suppliers, sponsors, donors and supporters, without whom these countless individuals would not have been served with our best efforts, services and supplies.

Here are just a few of those - we are sure we will leave out some if not many.
Please forgive us if we do and email us to include you in our list.

Yellowhead Pizzas and Subs, Sobey’s (Safeway), London Drugs, Great Canadian Bagel, Great Canadian Superstore, Martin’s Produce, Star Produce, Star Egg, Family Pizza, Saskatoon Family Network Inc. to name a few.

Our volunteers - Sandra Howarth, Linda Laird, Lee Hilton, Keith Hills, Sonia Hazen, Al and Audry Wersch, Rob and Georgia Van Doornum, Jonathan Wiebe, Richard Perras, Sandie McDade, Sheldon and Lisa Dyck, Casey Stokman, Helen Kvale, Dave and Lori Washington, Colleen Troesch, Doris and Joe Rubio, Caitlyn Cassidy.

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR SPONSORS AND SUPPORTERS, MANY OF WHOM COME OUT AND WORK WITH US SIDE BY SIDE WHILE WE CONTINUE TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY, OUR PROVINCE AND OUR NATION.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
